More than 80 persons have been diagnosed with respiratory infections at the Chisinau Emergency Hospital over the last two days. This is much above the norm. Specialists say the high number of viral infections is ordinary for this hot period as the people try to cool off and affect their health, IPN reports.
The National Scientific-Practical Center of Emergency Medicine informed that 56 persons on August 14-15 were diagnosed with viral infections, while 16 are suspected of having pneumonia. On dog days, tonsillitis becomes more acute as the people drink cold drinks and eat ice-cream. Many persons suffer from otitis because they keep the windows and doors open in the house and at work so as to cool the air.
The air conditioning systems also lead to the appearance or development of respiratory infections because the temperature in air-conditioned rooms is different from that outside and the body has to permanently adjust itself.
On dog days, doctors recommend avoiding drinking very cold beverages and the currents in air-conditioned rooms. They also recommend eating products that help the body to fight viruses, including garlic, onion, honey for throat pain and fruit that contain victim C for strengthening immunity.
