A resolution with suggestions for improving the situation of children in difficulty, children with special educational needs or behavioral disorders will be launched following a thematic workshop staged by the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport of Chisinau.

Contacted by IPN, Lilia Maximenco, vice director of the Division’s Psycho-Socio-Pedagogical Center, said that until next week the competent institutions will submit proposals. A roundtable meeting on the same subject will be held in October. The participants in the workshop aimed to identify the steps of including the children in vulnerable situations, to establish the parents’ and the psychologist’s role in this process and to identify solutions that would support the children with special needs.

Lilia Maximenco noted that authorities’ solutions for children with special educational needs or behavioral disorders must be accompanied by the involvement and support of parents because it is hard to intervene when there is opposition. Professional assistance is needed to engage these children in creative, sports and other kinds of activities. The current living standards and the fact that many parents go abroad to work leave an imprint as cases of behavioral disorders are more often met.

The specialized workshop “Psycho-pedagogical benchmarks in educational inclusion of children in difficulty” precedes the municipal teachers’ conference scheduled for August 26.
