The persons who took part in the protest mounted in the Great National Assembly Square adopted a resolution by which they demanded that the Chicu Government should immediately resign and snap parliamentary elections should be called. According to them, this government is responsible for the worsening of the economic situation and the pandemic situation in the country as it was unable to protect the own citizens. The resolution notes that the current Parliament, which is the creation of the Plahotniuc-Dodon oligarchic regime, fully lost its legitimacy and became a source of political, economic and social instability not only at internal level, but also at regional level, IPN reports.

“We, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who came together at the protest in the Great National Assembly Square, oppose the anti-popular actions of the Dodon-Shor regime that floats the results of the presidential elections of November 2020. The elections are the supreme form of manifestation of the people’s sovereignty and any attempt to go against the people’s will is illegal and unconstitutional. The presidential elections of November 2020 clearly showed what direction the Republic of Moldova should follow, while the powerful mandate of almost 1 million votes obtained by President-elect Maia Sandu is a mandate against corruption,” runs the resolution.

“What has happened in Parliament and the Government the last few days shows that the regime of Dodon cannot accept the defeat, while the oligarchic forces that recaptured the state do not intend to comply with the will of the sovereign people. Igor Dodon and the party he sequestrated, the PSRM, in an alliance with the thief who stole billions Ilan Shor, vehemently oppose the changes and try to reduce the powers of the President so that they could further rob the country unrestrictedly. We tell them that we will not allow them to do this.”

Besides the Government’s resignation and snap parliamentary elections, the citizens also asked for the annulment of the package of laws that was abusively adopted by the newly-formed PSRM-SHOR alliance.

“We demand to urgently annul the law that abusively deprives the presidential institution of its constitutional prerogatives and all the laws that run counter to the European course of the Republic of Moldova, bring economic damage to the citizens and weaken state security. If the Dodon-Shor government does not immediately take action to satisfy our demands, we reserve the right to take the necessary constitutional, legal and legitimate steps, in accordance with the international documents, so as to counteract the usurpation of the power in the state.”

The mobilized police officers and carabineers formed a cordon around the Government Building. Vehicle traffic didn’t have access to the area. According to the organizers, about 50,000 people took part in the protest.
