The head of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said the resolution of the political crisis wasn’t influenced from outside, as it was rumored after the crisis had been overcome. He made the statement in the public debate “Lessons learned and lessons to be learned. Overcoming and prevention of political crises: role of the political class and society - 2” that was staged by IPN News Agency.
“I do not agree with the thesis that the crisis was overcome owing to the foreign organizations. No influence from outside can determine the decisions of the politicians from inside, at least in my case. I took part in the meetings with high-ranking European officials. No EU official told us what we should do,” said Marian Lupu.
He also said that today the EU is a very important partner of Moldova. It is an extraordinary donor, especially when there is an economic crisis. “In this connection, the influence for overcoming the political crisis was rather indirect as, if early elections had been held, the suspension of the European agenda would have seriously endangered the foreign influence on the promotion of reforms,” stated the politician.
According to Marian Lupu, the politicians understood that no assistance would have come if the political agenda had been suspended. The Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit, where the Association Agreement with the EU is to be initialed, is as important. This event, plus the signing of the agreement in a year, will lead to ensuring the country’s irreversible course towards European integration.
The Democratic leader said the creation of a Free Trade Area with the EU, in parallel with the Free Trade Area with the Commonwealth of Independent States, is necessary for developing the country. “It’s not right to think that somebody comes from oversees and tells us what to do,” stated Marian Lupu.
