A Moldovan-German project to ensure access to drinking water of a high quality and to the sewerage system is being implemented in Costesti village of Rascani district, IPN reports.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca visited Duruitoarea Veche commune that forms part of Costesti village. Locals said they are satisfied with the water supply system. In 2010, when wells dried as a result of the high temperatures, they didn’t believe that a project can bring them running drinking water of a high quality.

The village mayor said that when the settlement was connected to the water supply system, the people started to show increased interest in the local facilities.

The Premier and the villagers discussed the necessity of improving the infrastructure in the area, building roads and attracting investments that would guarantee workplaces for the people. “With access to high-quality drinking water, appropriate infrastructure and remunerated jobs, those who live in villages will benefit from the same conditions as the people in towns and cities,” Iurie Leanca told inhabitants of Costesti in a meeting.

The project to supply water and build a sewerage system has a budget of almost €2 million. Costesti has a population of over 4,000 people.

Iurie Leanca visited also the Costesti-Stanca reservoir where the hydro-technical knot will be reinforced and a flood information system will be worked out within the EAST AVERT project, financed by the European Union through the Joint Operational Program Romania-Ukraine- Republic of Moldova.
