Residents of Chisinau suburbs will expect bus longer

The Electric Transport Company decreased the number of trolleybuses that run on routes in Chisinau by 25 as the number of passengers in summer is lower. The Urban Bus Company implements the same optimization measure in summer. “After the students take the exams and go on the summer vacation, the number of passengers diminishes significantly. Therefore, 25 trolleybuses were withdrawn from routes,” the deputy head of the Electric Transport Company Stefan Puiu has told Info-Prim Neo. A number of 262 trolleybuses worked in Chisinau by June 1. Now there are 237 units and the number might be reduced to 210 by the end of summer, depending on the volume of passenger traffic. “The trolleybuses that were withdrawn are in a bad condition,” Stefan Puiu said. The Urban Bus Company decreased the number of buses from 99 to 89. “We usually reduce the number of buses traveling on routes in summer. On the first summer day this year, the number of buses was decreased by 10,” said the company's deputy director Marcel Lupanciuc. The number of buses that run from Chisinau to the suburban settlements Cricova, Codru, Sangera and Dobrogea and back was also reduced. Eight buses will run on route No. 5, instead of 10. The number of buses working on route No. 23 will also be lower. According to the officials of the two companies, the move will allow reducing the costs by 20%.
