A local referendum on the dismissal of the mayor will take place in Anenii Noi town on December 29. The date was set in the November 26 meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC). The Commission’s secretary Andrei Volentir said the dismissal of the mayor was initiated by a group of townspeople for the reason that the people’s interests are not promoted and the inhabitants lost confidence, IPN reports.
According to the group, the mayor of Anenii Noi Mihai Cheibas was elected to the post in 2011, when he ran as a candidate representing the Communist Party. One year later, he left the party and abandoned the program presented in the election campaign.
In the meting, the CEC constituted the Anenii Noi town electoral district and approved the calendar program for organizing and holding the referendum.
The mayor will be discharged if at least as many voters as those who voted for him in the elections of 2001 vote against him now.
The Central Election Commission also decided that new local elections for the communal council will take place in Cealac village of Taraclia district on May 11, 2014. The council was dissolved as it adopted no decision during six consecutive months.
