A runoff vote will be held in Aluatu village of Taraclia district in two weeks as none of the candidates for mayor polled more than half of the valid votes cast in the rerun election last Sunday, IPN reports.

CEC head Angelica Caraman said that besides the runoffs, the local council elections were rerun in eight localities and the mayoral elections were also rerun in six of these localities on November 19. The rerun elections are considered valid regardless of the voter turnout. Consequently, the citizens with the right to vote in the eight settlements elected their local councilors, while in five localities also their mayors.

In Aluatu, none of the candidates for mayor gained more than half of the poll and two candidates who won most of the votes in the rerun election will contend in the runoff election.

According to the preliminary data, 895 mayors of the 898 were chosen in the general elections of November 5 and November 19. In Aluatu, there will be held a runoff vote, while in Chioselia Rusă and Cotovscoe villages of the ATU Gagauzia, partial elections will take place on March 3, 2024.
