Tens of persons from different construction companies have protested on August 14 in front of the Government building against the refusal of the Licensing Chamber to issue the Soroca Granit and Gravel Quarry with an activity license. The protesters say that refusal to offer the license leaves them without jobs, without the chance to feed their families and asked for the observance of their right to work at home. Vice president of the Federation of Construction Industry Trade Unions “Sindicons” Victor Talmaci said that “because of the refusal to issue the company with a license, it stopped operating in February and the employees have no possibility to work”. Talmaci added that the trade unions support the employees of the company from Soroca and asked the Government of Moldova to persuade the Licensing Chamber to issue the documents required for the activity of the Soroca-based stone pit. The organisers of the protest asked for the observance of the right to work, guaranteed by the Constitution of Moldova, as well as of the right to decent life. At the end of the protest action, its participants obtained a hearing with the general director of the Agency for Construction and Territorial Development, Vladimir Baldovici, and asked him to solve the problem as fast as possible. This is the third protest meeting related to this issue. The other two had been earlier held in Soroca.
