Representatives of the Russian, Polish and Armenian communities in Moldova criticize the reforms done in education by ex-minister Maia Sandu, who is running for the presidency. In a news conference at IPN, these said the Socialist candidate Igor Dodon is more suitable for the office of President.
Mihail Sidorov, of the Russian community, said that Moldova is a multiethnic country and they never witnessed problems related to the spoken language. However, during the last few years, owing to the imprudent actions of the politicians, the representatives of Slavonic ethnic groups remained without a characteristic element – use of the patronymic. The representative of the Russian minority expressed his indignation at the fact that the authorities intend to ban the broadcasting of news programs and talk shows produced in Russia on Moldova’s territory.
Mihail Sidorov expressed his conviction that the situation can be remedied if the people on November 13 vote primarily for the Party of Socialists’ candidate Igor Dodon. “He will not allow discrimination and forced assimilation of the ethnic minorities in Moldova,” he stated.
Ghenadi Babaian, head of the Armenian community in Chisinau, noted that the young generation must study the mother tongue and the history of the native country, while the people who know several languages have a richer soul.
Edward Iaroshewski, head of the Polish Society of Moldova, said the Moldovan politicians attempt to divide society as some pull it to the East, while others to the West. But there will be unity only if the politicians give up such messages. Igor Dodon is a balanced politician who can contribute to the consolidation of Moldovan society. He has the qualities and experience needed to also improve the economic situation in the country.
Teacher Ala Ursu-Antoci harshly criticized the reforms done when Maia Sandu was minister of education, saying this chose to close education institutions. Maia Sandu is also accused of introducing terror at the Baccalaureate exams and of the fact that her actions led to the abandonment of school by many students.
