Representatives and sympathizers of the Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) marched on the streets of Chisinau on May 1, on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day. The marchers said Moldova needs other politicians and young people should be promoted to high-ranking posts, IPN reports.

PSRM leader Igor Dodon said during the event that the Socialists will continue to plead for organizing a referendum on the dismissal of Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca because he causes disorder in the capital city.

MP Zinaida Grecheanyi, ex-premier, expressed her regret and concern about the current situation in Moldova. “In much more difficult situations, I knew how to correlate the state budget revenues and spending so that the salaries of teachers, doctors, and other categories of budget-funded employees could be raised almost annually and the pensions, students awards and allowances could be also increased,” she said, adding that the Party of Socialists will present a strategy for developing Moldova at the beginning of autumn.

Petru Corduneanu, ex-head of the Interior Ministry’s General Public Order and Police Division, said that Moldova witnesses criminal ‘debauchery’ and that a democratic state can be built only by obeying the law. Oleg Lipskii, a member of the PSRM executive, said the education and health systems are in a difficult situation.

According to the Socialists, the protests involved over 5,000 people.
