The leader of the parliamentary group of the Liberal Democratic Party Tudor Deliu said he doesn’t know examples in international practice when the Head of State was suspended for a period of several minutes for decrees to appoint functionaries or promulgate new laws could be signed by another person, in the case of the Republic of Moldova by the Speaker of Parliament. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, the Liberal-Democratic MP said it seems to him that a double game is played in this case, between President Dodon and Mister Plahotniuc with the whole Democratic Party, IPN reports.

“One says “I don’t want”, while the other one says “If you don’t want, we will show that we can without you”. So, one wants to seem correct towards the people, while the other one wants to prove that “what we do, we do for the people”. It is a double game that will ultimately bring no added value to the Republic of Moldova,” stated Tudor Deliu.

According to him, Igor Dodon will complete his duties as the procedure for dismissing the Head of State is very difficult and the President can be removed by referendum, but this method will not be used as Igor Dodon will most probably not be dismissed by referendum. “If they do so, they will only improve Dodon’s rating. That’s why I don’t think that they will follow the suspension path and will organize a dismissal referendum within 30 days, as the law provides. This is a game! One scares us with Moscow, while the other one wants to seem good and to polish his image in Europe, but the citizens do not stand to gain in this situation,” he stated.

In another development, Tudor Deliu said the discussions on the creation of an electoral alliance for the 2018 general legislative elections with the two extraparliamentary parties – Party “Action and Solidarity” and Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” – haven’t advanced. The negotiations continue, but there is no agreement. Moreover, the parliamentary and extraparliamentary pro-EU parties risk an electoral failure if they refuse to unite before the elections out of ambition.

The MP noted 2018 is an electoral year and the parliamentary activity will be someway paralyzed because many will try to use the Parliament rostrum as an electoral one. This year is expected to bring about changes. The Republic of Moldova should become a really democratic country, but this could not happen as the last events show that the pro-EU parties, either the parliamentary or the extraparliamentary ones, haven’t yet reached a consensus to form a coalition and try to win the future elections.
