The current repair works in most of the schools and kindergartens of Moldova are generally over. The extensive repair works are executed according to plan, but at some of the institutions these are behind schedule owing to the long public procurement procedure or the late delivery of the necessary materials. The Ministry of Education said the repair works here will continue in September, but these will not disrupt the education process, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry, extensive repair works to the value of 313 million lei and current repair works worth about 42 million lei have been performed at the national education institutions so far. Within the Moldova Education Reform Project, which is implemented with the financial assistance of the World Bank, renovation works have been performed at the Theoretical Lyceum “M. Manole” in Salcuta village of Causeni village and at the secondary school “Alexandru cel Bun” of Varzaresti, Nisporeni, within the first stage.
As a result of the assignment of graduates of teacher training institutions, 719 vacancies of teachers needed for the 2016-2017 academic year were filled. The other vacant places were occupied by retired teachers or teachers with an increased workload.
As during the previous years, the first-fourth graders, the students from socially deprived families and the fifth-twelfth graders of Moldovan-administered schools situated in Transnistria and Bender municipality will eat gratis at school.
About 17,000 students will be transported to education institutions by 285 school buses. By this yearend, the Government of Romania will donate another 100 school buses to Moldova, including units of transport adapted for persons with special needs.
During 2016, the local public authorities planned to restructure 76 general education institutions, 58 of which will be reorganized, while 18 will be optimized.
About 340,000 children will study at the 1,321 general education institutions of Moldova during the 2016-2017 school year.
