The Moldovan-administered Romanian-language secondary school of Corjova village will have to pay rent of 42,000 lei a month. The institution’s director Constantin Sucitu has told PN he was informed about this by the authorities of Dubasari district earlier this week.

Constantin Sucitu said the contract signed with the Dubasari Education Division stipulates rent of 42,000 lei a year, but now they demand that the school pay this sum monthly, invoking a decision of the Transnistrian administration.

According to the director, the school cannot afford to pay such a sum as its budget is tight. Constantin Sucitu sent a copy of the signed contract to the Ministry of Education, the OSCE Mission in Chisinau and the Reintegration Office, asking the constitutional authorities to intervene and solve the problem.

Constantin Sucitu said that no tax was levied for 19 years, while the investments they made in repairing the school in the period amounted to 1.6 million lei. This sum exceeds the price of the building.

Contacted by IPN, Eleonora Cercavski, director of the Lyceum ”Stefan cel Mare si Sfant” of Grigoriopol, which was transferred to Dorotskaya, said they pay annual rental of 42,000 lei. The Tiraspol Lyceum “Lucian Blaga” pays about 28,000 lei a month as rent.

In the Transnistrian region, there are eight Romanian-language education institutions teaching in Latin script.
