The works to modernize the Chekov square will be soon completed. A sidewalk was additionally built to ensure access to the park for persons with locomotor disabilities. There were placed seven vases with decorative thuja bushes.
Vasile Efros, head of the Territorial Development and Cleanup Division of the Chisinau General Public Amenities Division, has told IPN that about ten benches and also garbage bins will be yet put up. In spring, when the weather permits, grass will be panted.
Money for the works was allocated from the municipal budget. About 800,000 lei was allotted for the purpose last year, while this year about 300,000 lei.
A group of volunteers that in 2014 initiated a fundraising campaign collected €15,000 and donated this money for purchasing urban cast iron furniture, such as benches, trash cans, street lamps and bars for protecting the sidewalk.
