Renato Usatîi announced he will present a report on his work as Bălți mayor before his constituents on September 2.
“There has been a lot of speculation in the mass media as to my resignation from the post of mayor of Bălți. I’ve seen a lot of comments. I’ve seen rumors about me changing my mind. I’m a man of my word and there are certain things I think I can’t change my mind about, and in a live stream I promised I will meet with the Bălți residents to have a discussion”, Usatîi posted on Twitter.
The politician added that he feels obligated to appear before the residents of Bălți and give them “clear explanations about what happened and what is going to happen in the near future”. Above all, he went on, he has a duty to present a report on what he and his mayoral team has done in Bălți since 2015.
The next day after the July 12 snap legislative election, Usatîi announced he was stepping down as Bălți mayor, dismayed by the poor electoral result achieved by his party nationwide and in particular in the Bălți area. Later, Usatîi said he was going to take a leave before leaving the mayor’s office altogether.
