The value of remittances sent to Moldova in 2022 was US$1.8 billion, up 8.3% compared with 2021. The transfers made from the country last year came to US$642.6 million, an increase of 32.7% on a year before, IPN reports, quoting the National Bank of Moldova.
The remittances received from Russia last year added up to almost US$442 million, up almost 135% on 2021, when these totaled over US$188 million. Remittances from Israel ranked second with a figure of about US$261.5 million, as against over US$287 million in 2021, a decline of 9%.
Germany ranked third with remittances totaling US$ 212.8 million, 7% up on 2021, when these totaled US$198.7 million. Remittances from Italy came to US$201.4 million, a 13.3% decline on 2021.
According to the central bank, the largest volume of remittances came to Moldova through money transfer systems (83.2%), the SWIFT network (16.6%) and under bilateral agreements (0.3%). When sending money out of the country, the SWIFT network was used in the proportion of 72.4%, the money transfer systems – of 23.6%, while the services provided based on bilateral agreements – of 4%.
