The Orthodox Christians of Moldova can see the relics of Saint Andrew, the First Called Apostle, that will be brought to the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” in Chisinau in the evening of April 12.

Contacted by IPN, eparchial secretary of the Moldovan Metropolitan Church Vadim Cheibas said the relicts belong to the Metropolitan Church of Odessa and Ismail. They will be in Moldova for two days.

Andrew the Apostle was the first apostle of Jesus Christ. According to tradition, he preached in Scythia and Achaia and along the Black Sea and the Dnieper River as far as Kiev, and from there he traveled to Novgorod. Hence he became a patron saint of Ukraine, Romania and Russia.

Andrew is said to have been martyred by crucifixion at the city of Patras in Achaia, on the northern coast of the Peloponnese. He was fastened to an X-shaped cross.
