The relations of friendship between Moldova and Turkey and the customs and culture of the two countries are described in the most recent book of writer Mihail Lupashco – “The Trips of Wise Çelebi” – that was launched in Chisinau on July 6, IPN reports.

Evliya Çelebi was a famous Turkish historian and scientist who travelled to Moldova in the 17th century. “The book is about the trip of a Turkish scientist who did economic, geographic and cultural researches on Moldova. He was a great man of culture. The results of his work are examples of cooperation between people, not of hatred and war,” said the author during the launch.

Mihail Lupashco said that he described the scientist’s trip to Moldova, but invented also a love story of the scientist and a Moldovan woman. “I wanted to show that love and friendship are above everything as he was a Muslim, while she was an Orthodox Christian. It is above religion and stereotypes,” he added.

The writer intends to launch the book in the Gagauz language by the end of summer.

Attending the event, writer Fiodor Angheli, ex-MP and Moldova’s ambassador to Turkey in 1998-2001, said that Çelebi travelled via Moldova not a month or two, but several years. “Çelebi means responsibility, preparedness, wisdom,” he said, adding that everyone should read what Çelebi wrote about friendship between people.

“The Trips of Wise Çelebi” was printed in 500 copies and is available from the National Library in Chisinau.
