The reconstruction of all illumination networks in the municipality of Chisinau would cost EUR 12 mln, Head of the Municipal Company “Lumteh” Nicolae Veresco told the session of the City Hall on Monday, July 9. In his words, this fact is possible only by means of investments from the municipal budget or by attracting foreign investors. Also, he says that for several years, foreign companies from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and other countries show interest in investing in the public illumination of the municipality of Chisinau, but for this to happen the local administration has to support such projects. Once the money is found, the works can be finished within three years, the cited source mentioned. The illumination networks in the municipality of Chisinau have at present an operation period of over 30 years and in light of this situation it is necessary to rehabilitate them and to implement new technologies and illumination equipment with a lower power consumption, to choose new power counting equipment, to replace the aerial power lines etc, the head of the company said. In 2005, the local authorities started to rehabilitate the public illumination, being performed 30% of the works so far. According to the quoted source the main rehabilitation works take place in Chisinau’s districts and streets. In 2007 alone, there were rehabilitated the public illumination networks on the following streets: Vadul lui Voda, Petricani, Ion Creanga, Mihai Eminescu, Gagarin and the Alley of the Railway Station, Decebal Boulevard and Negruzzi, as well as in a series of territorial divisions of Chisinau’s districts. The maintenance of the networks is provided at present on 75% of the total area of this system in the municipality, including in suburbs, this being also the covering of the city with public illumination, Nicolai Veresco says.
