The children who will travel to an education institution by school buses and minibuses will be accompanied by a person trained in road traffic safety. The Cabinet on April 24 approved amendments to the regulations concerning the transportation of students to school, IPN reports.
According to the authorities, the new provisions are designed to better ensure the security of students that use school transport. The measures planned to be taken are aimed at instituting school transport services and at specifying the responsibilities of entities or persons authorized to implement the regulations.
Under the changes proposed to the Education Code, the authorities of the local public administration of the second level and of ATU Gagauzia will organize the free transportation of students from villages and from education institutions on distances that are not longer than 2 km, if there is no appropriate general school at the student’s place of residence. The changes define the powers of the local authorities of different levels related to the signing of contracts for the transportation of students.
As many as 22 263 students are transported to school by 386 buses in the 2018-2019 school year.
