The civil status acts produced and registered on the left side of the Nistru and in Bender could be confirmed by the competent Moldovan authorities by issuing civil status documents if the registration took place in conditions identical to those regulated by the Moldovan legal framework. A relevant bill to amend the Law on Civil Status Documents was passed by Parliament in the first reading on November 23, IPN reports.

Socialist MP Vladimir Turcan, chairman of the parliamentary commission for human rights and interethnic relations, spoke about the absence of legal possibilities of confirming the civil status acts produced on the uncontrolled territory from the left bank of the Nistru and in Bender. This problem is signaled by many of the residents of the security zone, who want to obtain Moldovan nationality. The documents issued by the unconstitutional Transnistrian authorities are not recognized by the Moldovan authorities and courts of law when ascertaining facts that have legal value.

Unaffiliated MP Lilian Carp considers that by this law the foreigners, including persons put on the wanted list, could get documents on civil status acts produced and registered in Transnistria and then obtain Moldovan nationality based on these.

Liberal MP Roman Botan said the bill is promoted in a hurry without the appraisals of the Government, the Security and Intelligence Service and other institution and without being subject to a legal appraisal. The opinion of the foreign partners was needed as the document increases border security risks. The Liberal MPs left the meeting hall after the bill examination procedure was completed.
