A former public bathing facility in Mereni village, Anenii-Noi district, will be adjusted to provide housing to 4 or 5 families of refugees from September. Repair works at the building started on Wednesday, June 22. Ecaterina Silvestru, the deputy head of the Asylum and Migration Bureau, has told Info-Prim Neo that the building was identified as part of a project aiming to integrate refugees. “The repair is done with the support of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). On Wednesday the location was blessed in a religious ceremony and the repair began. In three months, we should finish the work and from September the refugees will be able to move in”, said Ecaterina Silvestru. In the village of Rezeni, Ialoveni district, a similar project is underway, with a former library building being renovated. “These two activities mark a start in providing refugees with dwelling”, said Ecaterina Silvestru. The Asylum and Migration Bureau oversees 224 persons.
