The investigation of a number of loud criminal cases stagnates now that the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) is being reorganized. Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office acting head Viorel Morari has told Info-Prim Neo that many of the necessary steps couldn’t be taken following the initiation of the reorganization of the NAC. Viorel Morari said that if an anticorruption officer was requested to perform certain actions, these actions were later annulled by court decision as the court ruled that the officer didn’t have relevant powers. According to Morari, the reform prevents the NAC and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office from carrying out the necessary procedures. There are 25 prosecutors with administrative and monitoring powers at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, including two vacancies, and about 200 pending loud cases.
