The referendum planned by the government will have the same fate as the December 16 presidential elections, i.e. the results will be invalidated, considers the leader of the Civil Society Congress Fiodor Ghelici, who heads the public association “Moldova Mea”. He also said that Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu hold the posts illegally as the Constitution was violated when they were named, Info-Prim Neo reports. “They knew very well that the December 16 presidential elections will be declared unconstitutional. There are many jurists in Parliament and they know how the steps taken will end. The same will happen in the case of the referendum. The Constitution clearly stipulates that a referendum centering on the same article can be held once in two years. They said they will formulate the question in a different way, but the essence remains the same. They want to change the procedure for electing the head of state, but a new referendum on the issue can be held only after September 6,” Fiodor Ghelici said in a news conference on Wednesday. He also said that money will be wasted and proposed holding early parliamentary elections at the end of April and a referendum to amend the constitutional article on the election of the head of state in September. Fiodor Ghelici stressed that Vlad Filat illegally occupies the position of Prime Minister, while Marian Lupu that of Acting President. “I recently discussed with a senior jurist. He told me that under the constitutional norms, first the people elect Parliament, which elects the Speaker and then the President. Only after that the head of state suggests a candidate for Prime Minister, as a result of consultations with the parliamentary majority. This order was not respected in our country,” said the leader of the Civil Society Congress. He added that under the Constitution, the post of President falls vacant when the head of state is dismissed or dies. “We warn the authorities that if a revolt arises in society we will join in and things will worsen. We will try to meet with leaders of parliamentary groups to convince them to obey the law. It is not yet late to avoid bloodshed,” said Fiodor Ghelici. He informed he will meet with the leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin, whom he will ask if the opposition noticed the violations committed by the ruling alliance when naming officials to posts and why they did not react.
