Nimoreni village in Riscani district on October 21 will hold a local referendum to remove the incumbent Mayor Iuri Ivanov, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced. The decision to initiate the referendum belonged to the village council, which completed all formal procedures and presented to the CEC all the documents necessary for holding such a referendum. This is why the CEC decided to authorize the referendum, rejecting a request by the Mayor to annul it. Village council representatives told Info-Prim Neo that the reason why they want to remove the Mayor is that he failed to implement one single decision of the village council and that he obstructed all its initiatives. The councilors also claim that Iuri Ivanov owes his victory in the mayoral race to the mere fact that he was fielded by the Communist Party, rather than to what he really is, but now everyone regrets the choice. In 2011 Iuri Ivanov was elected by 783 votes. The same number of votes or greater is required to sack him.
