The local referendum on the dismissal of Renato Usatyi from the mayoralty of Balti municipality will take place on March 4. A decision to this effect was taken in the January 19 meeting of the Balti Municipal Council by the votes of 21 councilors of the 35, IPN reports.
The plebiscite was initiated at the request of the mayor, who, according to the councilors of the party this heads, wants thus to bring to an end the speculations that he is not supported by townspeople.
Through videoconferencing from Moscow, Renato Usatyi greeted and thanked the municipal councilors of his party for their decision to go on hunger strike in protest at the unprecedented pressure exerted by the representatives of the government, whom he called criminals with epaulets. Renato Usatyi said the local councilors showed stoicism, heroism and devotion to the inhabitants of Balti town and can serve as a model of confronting “the people of Plahotniuc” (leader of the Democratic Party) for all the citizens of the country.
The meeting of the Balti Municipal Council was held amid a demonstration in support of the mayor staged by members and sympathizers of the Political Party “Our Party” that is led by Renato Usatyi. This hasn’t been in Moldova for over a year and the meetings with the functionaries of the mayor’s office are held through videoconferencing from Moscow.
