The Referees Committee identified serious and multiple refereeing mistakes in the August 28 encounter between FC Zimbru and FC Sheriff of the sixth stage of the National Division, which seriously affected the game. Referee Serghei Derenov was thus suspended for life from refereeing, IPN reports.
The Referees Committee allowed terminating the contract signed with Serghei Derenov and excluding him from the list of referees of the Moldovan Football Federation and asked withdrawing him from the list of FIFA referees.
After the match played on August 28, a number of spectators, officials and players of Zimbru criticized the refereeing of Derenov, who seemed to be favoring Sheriff. He was accused of too easily giving the second yellow card to a player of Zimbru, who was thus eliminated in the first half of the game. The referee also didn’t award a penalty when a Sheriff footballer played with the hand.
The match between Zimbu and Sheriff ended by 1-2. The team from Chisinau thus suffered the first loss after a series of consequent victories and yielded the place of leader in the National Championship.
