The Republic of Moldova has real chances to ‘reconcile’ with the International Monetary Fund, but the reconciliation is possible not earlier than this August, considers the head of the parliamentary commission on budget and finance Stefan Creanga. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, the MP said that a governor will be soon named at the National Bank of Moldova and negotiations with the IMF will be initiated so that the salaries and pensions could be paid, IPN reports.

Stefan Creanga said that to solve the problem of salary and pension payment, three steps need to be taken, with the voting in of the Government being the first of these. Parliament is to designate a governor at the central bank and the negotiations with the IMF are to be started so as to obtain the first tranche of €60 million of Romania’s loan, which is intended as budget support.

According to the head of the parliamentary commission, the new governor could be named by mid-February. “If a candidate for the post of governor is proposed in the Parliament’s first plenary sitting of the ordinary session, which could be held on February 12, this could be voted in by the parliamentary coalition” stated Stefan Creanga.

He also said that the Ministry of Finance can now hardly cover the budget deficit. “The securities are now the only instrument that can be used, but these are a short-term solution. Regretfully, the securities market does not look attractive to economic entities given that the credibility of the state decreased,” said the MP.
