In the Republic of Moldova, there are reasons for concern about the quality of air. The main vulnerabilities at national level are related to the inefficient informing about the real pollution level, defective inter-sector coordination and inefficiency of the air quality monitoring system. The conclusions are contained in an environment audit report on the quality of air. The Court of Auditors’ decision on the report was published in the Official Gazette on January 19, IPN reports.
Under the report, the main challenges related to air policies faced by Moldova include the lack of a comprehensive set of legal acts on the quality of air. As a result, the adjustment of the national legislation to the EU’s is delayed, but the deadlines stipulated in the Association Agreement are nearing.
The Government and the competent ministries are recommended to strengthen the administrative capacities and initiate measures to reduce air pollution and to transpose information about the quality of air to national action plans that would be sustainable from financial viewpoint.
