The ‘reasonable timeframe’ for naming a new Prime Minister, which is invoked by President Nicolae Timofti, may cause a very difficult situation. The longer the political crisis is, the more serious Moldova’s image is affected,” said the Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu, quoted by IPN.

The Liberal leader believes that the withdrawal from the AEI agreement and the provocation of the political crisis were intentional acts aimed at preventing Moldova from becoming part of the EU. In this respect, Mihai Ghimpu drew a parallel with the year 1999, when the Sturza Government was dismissed. “This was done consciously before the Vilnius Summit of this autumn, as it was done before the Helsinki Summit of 1999, when the Sturza Government was dismissed so that Moldova could not follow the road to European integration. If the Government hadn’t been dismissed then, Moldova would have been an EU member now,” Mihai Ghimpu told the press.

Earlier, the head of state announced that he will put forward a candidate for premiership until April 5. But later he said that this time limit was extended at the request of the factions of the former AEI and the Premier will be proposed in a reasonable timeframe.
