A real estate agent of a company based in Chisinau was sentenced to ten years in jail for appropriating €40,000 from a client to whom he was to sell an apartment, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the agent obtained the €40,000 in three tranches in August – December 2021, on the pretext of selling an apartment situated in Râșcani district of Chisinau. The victim offered the money as an advance, but the real estate agent didn’t honor his obligations and didn’t return the money, using it for personal purposes.
The 30-year-old man, who is from Briceni, admitted his guilt and accepted all the proofs gathered during the investigation. Therefore, the criminal proceedings were simplified and the man benefitted from a one-third reduction in the maximum penalty stipulated by law.
The court also ordered the plaintiff to pay €40,000 in respect of pecuniary damage, 100,000 lei in respect of non-pecuniary damage to the victim and 10,000 lei court costs.
The judgment passed by the Buiucani Court can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court within 15 days.
