The parliamentary parties took note of the nomination of ex-minister of finance Nataliei Gavrilița to the post of Prime Minister, IPN reports.
The Socialists said the President met the deadline and suggested a candidate before February 1. “We are waiting for the Government’s program and the composition of the Cabinet that is to be proposed by this candidate (within 15 days under the Constitution). I think Parliament could examine this subject next week, when the legislature’s new session starts,” Igor Dodon posted on Telegram. The leader of the PSRM noted that the party’s National Council will have a meeting this weekend to discuss the subject. “I think the parliamentary group of the PSRM should take part in the examination of the program and the composition of the new Government so as to show the quality and professionalism of the former/current team of Maia Sandu to the citizens,” wrote Igor Dodon.
The Democratic Party noted the President chose a constitutional path despite the phantasmagoric proposals existing in society. In a press release, the Democrats said they know how Natalia Gavriliță acted as a minister of finance and want to know the composition of the Cabinet she will propose. “But we consider it is absolutely necessary to have a discussion with the President and the Prime Mister designate so as to understand the real intentions of such a move and will late decide, together with the team, how to act,” stated the PDM.
The position of the “For Moldova” platform, which includes the MPs of the Shor Party, is that Maia Sandu lost over 30 days to perform this procedure stipulated in the Constitution. “For Moldova” wonders if Natalia Gavriliță will take her role seriously or will accept to be a “war horse”. It said that some additional explanations are needed. The parliamentary platform “For Moldova” will soon come together to discuss and to decide its position on the candidate, but they want to know Natalia Gavrilița’s position on the COVID-19 pandemic and the necessity of urgently providing the citizens with vaccines; the expanding economic crisis; the necessity of raising pensions and social benefits for the citizens with low incomes; development of agriculture and building of a modern irrigation system, and others.
The head of the PAS parliamentary group Igor Grosu wrote on Facebook that President Sandu nominated the best candidate in the current situation, when Moldova has an irresponsible Parliament. “The biggest problem is the current Parliament that is discredited, corrupt and sold. We must reach snap elections even through the non-voting in of the Government,” he said, noting the PAS group will not for a Government during the current legislature as snap elections can be induced only this way.
The PPPDA hasn’t yet made comments on the designation.
In a press briefing in the evening of January 27, President Maia Sandu announced that she proposed ex-minister of finance Natalia Gavrilița for Prime Minister. She noted she continues to believe that the snap parliamentary elections are the only way for breaking the political deadlock. According to her, now the parliamentary groups will be able to show if they really want snap parliamentary elections or they cheat and try to set traps.
