The Government has approved the increase in daily rations allotted to orphan students attending professional and vocational schools, pre-higher and higher educational institutions, boarding schools and orphanages. Following a Government decision passed Wednesday, December 26, food norms will increase from 11 to 19 lei as of January 1, 2008. Premier Vasile Tarlev said this increase is welcome, but did not specify whether these children will receive better food or this increase comes only to cover the rise in food prices. According to the Ministry of Finances, the necessary means for the increase in these norms are stipulated in the budgets for the year 2008 of each ministry that has in its subordination institutions in which the given categories of children study.
