The Râșcani Health Center will be outfitted with a modern ultrasound machine bought with a grant provided by the Government of Japan. The value of the project to provide modern equipment under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects “Kusanone” is of US$45,901, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry of Health.

In the ceremony to sign the grant contract, Japan’s Ambassador in Chisinau Yamada Yoichiro said that Japan stands by the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to obtain stability and prosperity by joining the European Union. “Even if Japan is not a member of the EU, it shares the same values and principles of government as the European Union does, such as democracy, human rights, political legality, transparency, and equality before the law,” stated the ambassador.

“Japan has been the Republic of Moldova’s partner in the healthcare sector for many years. The Government of Japan is proud to cooperate with you, to be close to you and to play a modest role in this difficult but honorable trip till the end,” said Yamada Yoichiro.

Gabriela Sandu, director of the Râșcani Health Center, said that their institution now does not have such a machine as the old device used since the 1990s broke down. “We need this machine for making primary diagnoses for our patients, for those with chronic diseases, such as cancer and in many other cases as almost 24,000 persons from Râșcani district have registered with our center,” stated Gabriela Sandu.

Through the agency of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects “Kusanone” that was launched in Moldova in 2008, Japan so far has offered over US$6.9 million in grant funding for over 80 projects in education, healthcare, and public utilities.
