Former MEP Ramona Victoria Strugariu on February 14 was declared winner of the contest to fill the position of director of the National Institute of Justice. Her appointment sparked a wave of criticism in the public space, as she did not hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.

At the request of Ramona Victoria Strugariu, the National Institute of Justice approved a decision by which it postponed its own decision on her appointment, with the need to complete the procedures regarding the right to work and reside being invoked.

Born in 1979 in Romania, Ramona Victoria Strugariu has a degree in law and a master's degree in European law. She was elected Member of the European Parliament in the 2019-2024 legislature. She is co-chairwoman of the REPER Party of Romania and this fact is indicated on the party's website.
