Yesterday’s torrential rain caused damage in Chisinau and in other localities of the country. In the capital city, employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations were called to pump away water from the streets C. Negruzzi, 31 August, Grenoble and Albișoara. The municipal services pumped mud from basements situated on Ion Creangă St. Asphalt millings were placed on particular sections of the streets M. Cebotari, M. Viteazul and Columna, IPN reports, quoting the Chisinau City Hall.
The rain caused havoc also in other parts of the country. Rescuers were called out to pump water away from yards of homes in the districts of Basarabeasca, Ialoveni, Ștefan Vodă, Anenii Noi, Strășeni, Căușeni. They also took away the trees downed by the high winds.
Drainage channels were dug to prevent sub-flooding in particular areas that were in danger. In Căușeni town, firefighters pumped mud and water away from the streets Păcii and Tighina and also in Copanca village of Căușeni district, Răscăieți village of Ștefan Vodă district, Ruseștii Noi village of Ialoveni distrust and in Anenii Noi town.
To prevent floods, rescuers also pumped water away in Durlești and Codru towns of the municipality of Chisinau.
