The polemic between the opposition and the government hasn’t centered on policies, solutions and discussion of real problems of the people during the existence of the Republic of Moldova. This centers on political games and games behind the curtains that have always been present in Moldovan politics, Radu Marian, a member of the National Standing Bureau of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS), said in the public debate “Quality of the political class: importance, current state and ways of improvement” that was staged by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova.

Radu Marian voiced hope that when new parties and new generations of politicians appear on the Moldovan political arena, the current situation will change. The PAS has a long-term country development view that has been absent during the past 26 years. “The democratization of the political parties is vital for changing the situation in the Republic of Moldova. Their financing is the fundamental factor that would ensure the democratization of parties,” he stated.

According to Radu Marian, the way in which the political parties are now funded in Moldova cannot facilitate the democratization of parties and ensure the change of the political class. The most influential parties have one financing center now and this prevents the democratization process. The PDM has one financing center through Mister Plahotniuc. The PSRM is financed from the same close circle as Mister Dodon and so on.

Radu Marian said the PAS is the first party in the country’s history that has democratic financing because it comes from upright donors in a transparent way, which is key for the party and this will help promote people in politics according to their merits.

He stated that the political class in Moldova is as it is because the politicians avoid answering the questions directly. “The political speeches are full of artificial, often groundless things that do not match the realities and this is actually deviation from the real problems faced by the Republic of Moldova,” concluded Radu Marian.

The public debate “Quality of the political class: importance, current state and ways of improvement” was the 78th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.
