The construction of a national stadium will represent an investment not only in the sports sector of the Republic of Moldova, but also in the country’s economy, said the chairman of the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance Radu Marian, referring to the Government’s intention to build an UEFA Category 4 stadium near Chisinau. The MP noted that the €85 million needed for building the stadium will be allocated from the state budget and external funding, IPN reports.
Recently, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu and Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun presented the details of the project to build a national stadium near the Chisinau Arena. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 20,000 – 25,000, with a continuous roof to protect all seats.
“Every country in the region has a national stadium that meets the international standards. Today we don’t have a national stadium that can be used at the highest level. The amount is indeed a very large one, but this amount will return to the economy. It is a long-term project. It is needed to promote performance, to promote sport. If a team from the Republic of Moldova reaches the more advanced stages of international competitions, such as the Champions League, the athletes have nowhere to play. The stadiums we have, except for the one in Tiraspol, do not meet the requirements,” Radu Marian stated in the talk show “Resumé” on RliveTV.
The total cost of the project is estimated at €85 million. Radu Marian said that this investment is a long-term one and is an investment not only in football, but also in economic growth and the creation of jobs.
“I can’t say now where we will get money from because it is a long-term project, like other large-scale projects, such as the Chisinau-Vulcanesti power line or the road infrastructure projects we are implementing, because we have put into operation over 500 kilometers of road in recent years. They are all expensive projects and have different sources of funding, such as the state budget and international funding. The construction of the national stadium will be an investment not only in sports and performance, but also in the economy,” said the chairman of the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance.
According to the pre-feasibility study conducted by the Moldovan Football Federation, the national stadium will have 18,000 square meters on the ground and 10,000 square meters inside the stadium and will be 60,000 square meters in area. It will also be equipped with a parking lot with a capacity of 1,500 – 1,800 places.
