There is a risk that a clear pro-European majority will not be formed after the parliamentary elections of 2025, ex-Deputy Speker of Parliamennt Alexandru Slusari and deputy chairman of the Party of Change Sergiu Tofilat warned. The two said the general local elections revealed a decline in the citizens’ trust in the PAS government. For his part, MP Radu Marian said the government is supported by 1/3 of the voters and the parliamentary elections of 2025 will involve the diaspora that will secure a new parliamentary majority for the PAS, IPN reports.

Alexandru Slusari said the results of the local elections showed that the PAS loses support among the people who voted for this party in the elections of 2021. There is a risk that the majority in the future Parliament, after the 2025 elections, will no longer belong to the pro-European forces.

“The government should think how to prevent the thwarting of the European course in 2025 by the democratic process called elections. Analyzing figures, we see that we cannot be sure that the PAS will further hold a majority. If the PAS does not learn from its mistakes and continues to say one thing and to do another thing, we will get nowhere,” Alexandru Slusari stated in the program “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

The concern was shared by Sergiu Tofilat, who said that the PAS doesn’t manage to reform the justice sector, but this electoral promise secured its victory in 2021.

“The situation of the parliamentary elections of 2025 implies a particular risk. Will we manage to keep a pro-European majority or not? We see the results of polls and discuss with people, with the diaspora. We see the voter turnout. The situation will definitely not be the same. President Sandu won the term owing to her message about the fight against corruption. Today Tauber was allowed to go abroad. Andronachi drinks coffee. In the place of the PAS, I would start to wonder. In the prosecution service and the NAC, the situation mainly didn’t change, as it didn’t in the courts of law,” stated Sergiu Tofilat.

MP Radu Marian is yet sure that the ruling party continues enjoying the people’s support and they will manage to obtain a new parliamentary majority after the elections of 2025.

“The PAS won approximately 1/3 of the political vote. If we add the diaspora, forecasts show that we will win a majority or nearly a majority against the background of the energy crisis, the war, inflation, which weren’t caused by us. We have a hybrid war, external threats, but despite these challenges, we keep 1/3 of the citizens’ support. With an election threshold of 5%, we can further predict a clear European, PAS majority,” opined Radu Marian.

According to the preliminary results presented by the Central Election Commission, 244 PAS mayors won the November 5 election by the first round of voting, while 153 mayors will compete in the runoffs. Also, in 19 districts, the PAS obtained the best electoral score.
