Radu Albot has won a new Challenger tournament held in Germany’s Furth. Moldova’s best tennis player beat 6-3, 6-4, the representative of the hosts Jann-Lenard Struff, who ranks 101st in the ATP rankings, IPN reports.
The victory brought Radu Albot 90 points in the ATP rankings and a money award of US$6,150. In the first round, the 26-year-old athlete defeated the seventh favorite of the competition Thiemo de Bakker of the Netherlands, who ranks 120th in the world, by 6-3, 6-2. In the 1/8 finals, Albot won 6-2, 6-2 against Brazil’s Guilherme Clezar, who takes the 177th position in the ATP rankings.
In the quarterfinals, the 137th ranked Albot beat Spain’s Albert Montanes (98th) 7-6, 6-2, while in the final he defeated Germany’s Tobias Kamke (155th) 6-1, 6-4.
