Radu Albot has become the first Moldovan player to directly qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament. Albot will play in the first round after Juan Monaco withdrew from the tournament, IPN reports.
Two weeks before the beginning of US Open, Albot missed his chance to win his third Challengers tournament, when the lost the final game in Prague to Brazil's, Rogerio Dutra Da Silva, 288th in the ATP rankings. The South American won in three sets – 6-2, 6-7 and 6-4, after 3 hours and 10 minutes of play.
However, thanks to his performances in Prague, Radu Albot moved up 11 positions in the ATP rankings and is now on the 86th place.
