Radu Albot started the competition at the ATP tournament in Antalya with a victory. The Moldovan tennis player qualified for the second round after he eliminated Portugal’s Joao Souza. Albot won the match that lasted for 1 hour and 23 minutes by 7-6, 6-2, IPN reports.
In the 1/8 finals, the 27-year-old player meets Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi, who is the competition’s number two seed. For his victory, Albot won almost €8,000 and 20 points in the ATP world rankings.
The tournament in Turkey, whose prize money is of half a million euros, ends on July 2. Among the top players competing in Antalya are Fernando Verdasco and David Ferrer.
