Radu Albot failed to qualify for the second round of the US Open. The Moldovan tennis player was beaten by Viktor Troicki of Serbia, who ranks 35th in the world, by five sets, IPN reports.
The game at the last Grand Slam tournament for Albot this year lasted for 4 hours and 23 minutes. Moldova’s best tennis player won the first two sets by 7-5 and 6-3, but lost the third set by 6-4 after it was 4-4. In the fourth set, Albot recovered sensationally from 1-4, tying 4-4, but lost similarly 6-4. In the decisive set, Troicki won by 7-6 as a result of a tie-break.
Radu Albot was the first Moldovan tennis player who competed in the Olympic Games. In Rio, he went through to the second round after beating Russia’s Teimuraz Gabashvili.
