Moldovan tennis player Radu Albot went through to the semifinals of the international Challenger tournament of Geneva, losing to Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, who won the competition, IPN reports.
Baghdatis defeated Albot by 6-3, 6-3, while in the final he beat Poland’s Michal Przysiezny in three sets. Before qualifying for the semifinals, Albot eliminated athletes who have better positions in the ATP rankings, such as Mate Delic, Lukas Lacko and Damir Dzumhur. Following his good performance at the Geneva Open, Radu Albot rose to the 171st position in the world.
Albot also competed in the doubles in Geneva. Together with Romania’s Victor Hanescu, he reached the quarterfinals. The prize money of the Geneva Open was €64,500.
