The “Radiocomunicatii” state enterprise, with 100% state capital, will be reorganized into a join stock company, as this is, according to the authorities, the most optimal solution to the modernization of the enterprise. This decision has been approved this week by the Cabinet of Ministers. The project has been elaborated by the Ministry of Informational Development accordant to the Creation of the “Electronic Moldova” informational society National strategy, which plans the privatization of communication state enterprises. According to the minister Vladimir Molojen, the current activity of this enterprise is outdated and considerable investments for high-tech equipment purchase is required in order to reach international standards. The implementation of digital broadcasted TV and radio stations is imminent, and these require expenses of approximately EUR 3-4 million. The informative note attached to the decision project also mentions that the worn-out equipment and the prices used from 2000, currently below the cost of the offered service, lead to the fact that in 2005 the enterprise’s activity suffered losses worth MDL 1.5 million. According to the minister, the privatization of the enterprise will create attractive conditions for potential investment in the field and will improve the quality of the offered services. Subsequently, auctions for attracting investments will be announced. The 2009 Government activity program plans for the construction of a land based national digital television network. 5 TV programs will be broadcasted through this network, including those currently broadcasted through 3 analog television networks. The “Radiocomunicatii” state enterprise has been founded in 1948 as a Republican radio broadcasting center, together with the first radio network. The basic activity of this enterprise was broadcasting television and radio programs on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
