The public station Radio Moldova celebrates 86 years of work. This year the anniversary coincided with the presidential elections and the programs are focused mainly on this event.

Contacted by IPN, Radio Moldova director Veaceslav Gheorghishenko said that in connection with the anniversary, they air interviews with current and former employees of Radio Moldova, program authors and listeners. “This year we celebrate more by work,” stated the director.

Veaceslav Gheorghishenko said he wants Radio Moldova to be outfitted with new equipment so as to ensure the quality of the broadcast round the clock. “As regards programs, we would like to work more on the quality segment so that there are more programs centering on urban listeners and we attract them with useful information and will also not forget about the rural listeners who are our traditional listeners,” he said.

He noted that Radio Moldova aims to launch a program in the Russian language for the nationals who know Romanian less. A future objective is to attract the young people by different programs as the elder listeners got used to the radio already.

The public station has seven editorial offices, namely: “Radio News”, “Debates, documentaries, coproduction and investigations”, “Culture”, “Music”, “Youth”, “Children”, and “National minorities”, and two departments: “Heritage” and “Recordings and music bands” that include the Symphonic Orchestra, the Choir “Moldova” and the Technical Radio Center.
