The education system in Moldova needs radical reforms because there are many problems that should be solved, starting with the size of pays and quality of school curriculum and ending with the mentality of people, education expert Anatol Gremalschi was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Moldova live” on Moldova 1 channel.

The expert stated that the parents want an education system of a high quality. Most of them realize the necessity of improving the status of teachers in society. The salaries of teachers should be further increased even if their pays are now practically equal to the official salary. The idea that working as a teacher is not the best variant should be combated. “Radical reforms are needed in the education system,” stated Anatol Gremalschi.

Valentin Crudu, division head at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said emphasis in 2018 is placed on the identification of financial resources for developing the professional capacities of teachers, on the one hand, and on the modernization of programs for training future teachers, on the other hand. “The 17 million lei we identified in the state budget this year could be used to improve at least some aspects,” he stated, noting the Ministry is committed to improving the school curriculum that hasn’t been reviewed for several years.

Valentin Crudu also said there is a shortage of over 2,000 specialists in education, namely educators and teachers, at present.

Viorica Negrei, acting head of the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said there are not enough specialists in the education system in Chisinau too. The system is probably not very attractive and the vacancies cannot be thus filled. “I think it is important to do reforms in the education system and simultaneously in other areas so as to fill the gaps that cannot be filled by the education strategy. For example, we should work on the teachers’ image, the pay system and the prevention of the leaving of the best teachers to other states where the living standards are more attractive,” stated Viorica Negrei.
