The members of the commission for investigation of the pharmaceutical market questioned the activity of local drug producer Balkan Pharmaceuticals. Suspicions appeared after investigating reports in the archive of the Medicine Agency. On Tuesday, July 3, the commission members came to the ground to investigate closer.
MP Gheorghe Brega, head of the inquiry commission, told Info-Prim Neo that questions were raised by the fact that the company reported to produce about 100 pharmaceutical products, a high figure even for bigger companies.
Another question is related to the drugs without shelf life indicated on the package, found in the company’s store. Gheorghe Brega added that in the vicinity there was a manhole used by Balkan Pharmaceuticals to dispose of waste.
Company director Kiru Silviu denied the accusations and said that waste wasn’t thrown out, but recycled. Balkan Pharmaceuticals decided to temporarily halt production, explaining that it already had enough medicines in store that had to be sold.
The decision to halt production caught the inquiry commission’s attention so that its members decided to continue to monitor the company and later to take a final decision in this case.
