The last witnesses for the prosecution in the case of ex-Premier Vlad Filat were questioned on April 12 and the questioning of the defense witnesses will now start, IPN reports.

In a new hearing on April 13, the defense will begin to present its evidence, state prosecutor Adriana Betisor stated. She refused to provide details about today’s hearing.

Vlad Filat’s lawyer Igor Popa said that the prosecutor today presented the list of proofs and the documents were examined. “We were offered the possibility of drawing the court’s attention to the important circumstances provided as evidence. We insisted for a period on making the hearings public and will repeatedly ask this. The witnesses for the defense will now give testimony. Among these are the ex-governor of the National Bank of Moldova Dorin Dragutanu and other high-ranking officials who are directly responsible for the bank fraud. These will be questioned and we will then formulate appraisals,” stated the lawyer.

Igor Popa also said that the defense has over 30 witnesses.

Vlad Filat faces 7 to 15 years in jail for influence peddling and passive corruption. He pleads not guilty.
